Owning a handgun
In order to legally own a handgun in the ACT, you need to be a member of a registered pistol club.

New members
New members are always welcome at the APS Gun Club, but please understand that the APS Gun Club is primarily designed for current and former members of organisations that carry firearms as part of their daily duties - police, military, ABF, Corrections etc. The competitions that we shoot are based around the requirements of law enforcement agencies - we are also an IPSC accredited Club. Civilian members need to be introduced by a current member of the Club.

Firstly - Come out to the range and introduce yourself! Meet the committee and other members and have a chat. Watch what happens and, if there is an instructor present, you can try out firing a handgun to make sure you enjoy it. If you decide to join us, follow these steps:

- Obtain your National Police Certificate - here is the AFP site - current cost is $42 and can be completed online
- Once you have your certificate, complete and submit the New Member form - available below in the APS Gun Club Membership Information file. Both Word and PDF formats are provided.
- Once accepted as a member, pay your fees - currently $120 per year, which includes your SSAA Range Pass. If you have your own range pass, fees are $60 per year. For members joining after January 1st, membership fees are reduced to $30 on a pro rata basis.
